Progression is something that I hope we all strive for. There are ups, and downs with a lot of learning in between, and before we know it, we are progressing... accomplishing. In my circumstances, it is the same way. We have been accomplishing a lot lately. For example...
Phineas and Nicholas are going through this big climbing phase (that I actually think boys don't grow out of) and they are climbing on everything they can. In a park close to our house we have what the boys call "the spider park". It is great because there is a great big "web-like" structure one must climb to get to the top of the slide. I usually have to spot Phin so he can climb, but the other day I decided to push him to do it himself. Although he didn't think he could do it he kept climbing and was overjoyed to see that he had made it all the way to the top alone. I was equally excited! I clapped and shouted words of encouragement. I think that I may have been more excited than he was. I probably got a little teary-eyed too... our little Phin is growing up! It was one of the first things I announced to his parents when I saw them later that night. What a big accomplishment for Phineas!
Nicholas, well he has also been riding his bike a lot! This is really good, because his feet stick out the bottom of the buggy, and it is nicer for him to be able to ride home from Kindergarten himself. The other day it was pouring rain, and he STILL wanted to ride his bike home. Although it tested my patience a little (cause I was SOAKED by the time we got home) I was very proud of him too... that also went on the list of announcements.
As far as my accomplishments go well... I feel I am definately a work in progress. One thing that we did accomplish this week was to get a security badge for me! I know that doesn't sound like such a big deal, but for all of you who are not aware of the situation, here is a snip-it from an e-mail I sent out to those in my "fan club" (I say "fan club" just cause it makes me sound loved)
Koko works for the United Nations University here in Bonn. (Basically just a branch of the UN… I'm not sure why they refer to it as a University) Security is a little bit lame in my situation. With my schedule I pick up the boys in the morning and then drop them off there in the late afternoon when I am "finished" for the day. When I first got here we had to fill out paperwork for me to get a security badge that I could show security so they would let me through. Until that was taken care of I had to stop outside the security desk, give them an ID, and then they would fill out paperwork saying I was a visitor then give me visitor's badge to be able to enter the premises. After that I would park the bike and go through the main doors where I had to go through a security check, almost as bad as the airport, except for the removal of shoes. Then if I was lucky a lot of the security would know I was there for Koko and let me go to her office. On occasion I would have to sit and wait until she came to get me. Lame. Finally I got my badge and was cruising through straight up to Koko's office. It was so much easier:) However, one rainy day I was kept from leaving by security, they told me I had to talk to the head of Security. So I waited… Yep, he told me I couldn't have a badge because I was not a family member and he revoked it. Once again, I have to go through all the security to get to Koko every morning, every night. I hate it. Most of the security people know me now and sometimes meet me at the gate with my pass, some even let me bypass the security machines, but not all of them. One lady still occasionally makes me wait in the dumb lobby. It makes it harder for all of us. The solution Koko finally came to was to make me her intern. Sweet I say. Too bad that doesn't include a pay increase:) Anyway, I might be able to do a few things, then I can use it on my resume, but mostly I just want the security badge that goes with the job. Koko has never had this problem before, maybe it's just me? So, I have submitted my resume and the paperwork is being processed, soon I hope to be an intern for the UN. I won't be the "hot intern" that they always seem to have on television. It will be more like the "weathered-looking intern with the helmet hair and the LL cool J pant leg (so it doesn't get stuck in the gears it's very 'in' here) and on Fridays you can add "out of breath" or "red-faced". It will not be glamorous but I will have a badge!
Now if I could just figure out how to make the security guys not argue over me... I'll add it to my list:)
